How to setup a Kinesis account for a child/minor

You can do this, but the account has to be in the name of parent/guardian (for benefit of child).

The basic process is
  • Set up the account using what will be the child's email address, but the name and KYC will be for the parent/guardian.
  • Then send an email to support@kinesis.money advising that the account is for a minor, along with government issued documents proving the child exists eg birth certificate/passport.
  • The account will then be changed to have a designation for the child.
  • At age of majority, the account will become the child's. I think they will need to do their own KYC to trigger this.

Does Kinesis have a default value they consider the age to be a "minor", or are they relying on whatever your local jurisdiction would set as age of majority (and how would they know in that case)? Is it the absence of certain KYC documents, like a driver's license, etc.?

I was just thinking about this for my 16 year old who just has a learner's permit for a driver's license at present.

From Terms of Use:
5.10.2 you are of the legal age of majority in your jurisdiction as is required to access the Platform and/or Services and enter into arrangements as provided by the Services.

A quick web search suggests that age of majority in US is generally 18.
I think this is likely to be checked during KYC.
Might be worth double checking with Account Exec before deciding on the method of application.
