Where does all the gold / silver come from?

Increasingly we hear that Central Banks are buying large tonnage gold. We hear about high demand for gold and silver. We also hear that the US probably doesn't have any gold.
So where does all the gold come from? Who is holding this gold to be able to sell into the market?

If you think this is a good question to ask will you upvote it at the beginning of the thread please.

I've been asking that question for about, oh, let's say, 20 years now. I was asking it especially of Ted Butler, who for quite a period of time back several years ago was stating that JPMorgue had accumulated 500M, then 600M, then...then... 900M oz phyz Ag for their own book. I asked him where he thought that all came from, especially since he also believed that all the phyz Ag that was supposed to back the ETF (SLV) was also all there, and on top of that many were talking about a phyz shortage. He responded but never really answered. I'd love to hear Andrew's take on that, bc I don't believe it, ie, w/rt SILVER.

Yeah it is sort of like when X, Y, Z says the world is run by this cabal, cartel, this secret group - but those who say this never actually say who it is other than old chestnuts like the Rothschilds and the Rockefellars.
The 'where does all the gold actually come from' is the same sort of mystery question and answer.

i think we will have to create a new thread for each question.
I have changed the title of the thread - every question will need a new thread.

That could get a little unwieldy. Maybe just as easy to post questions and then "Like" them and then an Admin can go through and count the Likes and then present the questions accordingly. I doubt there'll be hundreds or even dozens. Might be a bit of a hassle for the chosen Admin, but I think this group can be selective in their questions.
Please create a new thread within this section for each question.
The voting mechanism is described here along with how to order the questions by popularity etc.

You're right ... creating new threads is simpler and more elegant than I thought it would be.
