Q4 – Q1 2023 Quarterly Update

Indonesia requesting the token backing metals being vaulted on Indonesian soil... Panamá requesting the same... looks like a pattern to me

"are situated within the territory
of the Republic of Panama, or which, if situated outside of Panama, form part of an international network of duly certified vaults"

Looks like they are fine with it being outside Panama too. Now who has a international network of duly certified vaults?😁

"...not be subject to any tax..." !!!

Woo hoo! I've already got a Panama hat, so I'm pretty much a local. I just need my factor 500 sun cream to protect that blue Scottish skin and I'm all set. Being 20 minutes from Thiefrow makes it easy:
Let me know when you fly in so we can test your card here.. :)

Given that the USA invaded Panama as recently as 1989, they are probably better off keeping their metal in an international vaulting network. Just saying :D

Yes, if it was years ago, Panama's leaders may have had the following wish list:
1) a physical vault on Panama's sovereign territory;
2) the flexibility of a global network of vaults;
3) a partner yield to fund development goals;
4) a retail saving and spending facility.

Only the structure of the allocation of revenue returns by Kinesis enables all this, in addition to the technology and experience.

At the time, all the above were likely just a vision, so Panama's leaders bought the people involved, their attitude and honesty, because they knew that realistically it would take years. So by the time it comes to draft legislation, you're dealing with long term, trusted partners who really make more than best endeavours over years to deliver.

What message will they relate to other leaders, especially when it's all working? Who else is there and what might the relative risks be?

Looking at Atlas on Google's atlas, there are some very interesting countries to the north and south of Panama, with huge, tokenisable assets: oil, gold, lithium, agricultural products...

If those countries' leaders see it working for Panama, why not?

Let's hope for more.

Hi Dante,
I don't think vaulting in Panama and using an international network outside Panama are equal for Panama's authorities.
Vaulting in Panama is their 1st choice, the international network is 2nd choice.
Maybe they wanted very bad a metal backed token but they knew how difficult it is vaulting on Panama's soil, so they added the international network option.

Point is, an organisation offering vaulting on Panana's soil has a huge advantage in front of Panama's authorities vs. another one offering the international network option. IMO

A law takes years to come to life. My theory: kinesis knew about this law, so back then they partnered with Atlas front-running the competition.

The main benefit of the Atlas partnership is not that of delivering Latam kinesis users when they ask for redemption but that of making Panama's authorities choose kinesis.
Pretty sure that Kinesis had input into the drafting of the legislation. So specific is it to Kinesis it pretty much excludes any other organisation. I'm of the opinion that they are happy with metals stored anywhere if its by the right organisation (I.e Kinesis)

Yes Tom mentionned K participating in drafting a new legislation, no more doubts its Panama..

What is the strategic importance of Panama with regards to the MFP?
The importance of any partnership is to provide additional legitimacy/impetus to use of KAU/KAG in the area covered by that partnership. Additional use equals additional market cap and additional fees for the MFP. Partners have monetary incentives to promote that use.

Of course, there is also a spillover effect to places which aren't covered by a specific partnership.
Have a look at Kinesis, it's being used on an everyday basis in country X and country Y.

Assuming Panama is the first hat in LatAm, this little video of FedEx explaining why Panama is so important to them is intriguing to me. I mean, imagine Kinesis getting a foothold with an organisation like FedEx. In my opinion, it’s not too much of a stretch of the imagination.

There certainly appears to be very strong evidence pointing to Kinesis launching in Panama. If so - this is a very exciting development.

Thanks to @Dante Roman for highlighting the key elements of the recently passed Panama Crypto Law! (Sure sounds like Kinesis is involved).
If Panama becomes a reality, and Kinesis is integrated into all Panama government services / currency, I don't see how Fed Ex (or other international companies) could avoid having to create a Kinesis account and connection. Maybe just the first step to them using Kinesis worldwide?

Looks like Panama and if so the advantage is as a foothold and a hub for servicing Latam.

Some more info on Panama. The 'crypto law' has been in the works for a while. Last year it was partially vetoed by the president, and he is again unhappy with certain articles and the approval process so has sent to the supreme court for review. They may rule it or parts of it illegal or may approve it with modifications. It appears the issue is to do with a new administrative structure being created to oversee transparency, AML etc. Something to keep an eye on.

Hmm.. Unlikely that we'll see an announcement any time soon if this is the case and it is indeed Panama.

Ah? Can we get reading material or sources on this? Txs.
